about the series
Mortal Kombat is a video game series that was created back in 1991 by Midway. It was originally developed as a reaction to Capcom's Street Fighter II, using real actors instead of the usual cartoon-like graphics of most games. Since it's arcade release in 1992, MK has been a constant talk amoungst critics, and it's caused quite an amount of controversy in it's time, due to it's over the top displays of blood, fatalities and violence.

Since the first game, there have been more than 6 sequals released, as well as movies, television shows, and even a tour of sorts. With the games, it was MK 4 that brought the graphics into 3D, and with the release of MK: Deadly Alliance, the 'normal' type of fighting style was dropped in favor of giving the game series a bit more flavor, and allowing the characters 2 fighting styles, as well as a weapon suited to their tastes.

With it's latest release, MK: Armageddon, there's more to do than just the typical fighting mode. There's a 'Konquest' mode, which brings a sort of RPG-like feel to the game, as well as 'Motor Kombat', which tends to the racing fans, allowing the player to race as a tiny version of favorite characters. Also in this game, there is a wide variety of choices when it comes to character selection, as nearly every character in the Mortal Kombat franchise was added to this game's roster. There truly is something for everyone when it comes to Mortal Kombat!
